Jesuit Identity

What is a Jesuit School?
A Jesuit school is a Catholic school inspired by the teachings of St. Ignatius of Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus, also known as the Jesuits. For nearly 500 years, Jesuit schools around the world have formed students to become thoughtful leaders, compassionate people, and lifelong learners—committed to making a positive difference in the world.
At its core, Jesuit education is about more than academics. It's about helping students grow in mind, heart, and spirit so they can live with purpose and integrity.
Jesuit Values at The Welsh Academy
At The Welsh Academy, our students grow in the five key characteristics of a Jesuit graduate:
-
Open to Growth: Boys learn to take risks, reflect, and mature as learners and leaders.
-
Intellectually Competent: Rigorous academics prepare them to thrive in high school and beyond.
-
Religious: Through prayer and reflection, students develop a relationship with God and their community.
-
Loving: We foster empathy, kindness, and respect for all.
-
Committed to Justice: Even at a young age, our students take action to build a more just and loving world.

“Theology helps you become a better person, not just learn about God.”
