The Welsh Academy Recognized by the Diocese of Cleveland for Academic Achievement
The Welsh Academy has been named one of six schools across the Diocese of Cleveland to receive a special recognition for Academic Excellence, an honor based on notable student growth and performance on the NWEA MAP assessments aligned with Ohio’s proficiency standards.
The recognition was shared in a notification from Frank O’Linn, Secretary of Education and Superintendent of Schools for the Diocese of Cleveland. His letter affirmed that The Welsh Academy’s results stand out among peer schools across the diocese in both reading and mathematics.
In part, the letter of notification from O’Linn states:
Congratulations! Your school – and especially the leadership of your principal has earned recognition for Academic Excellence. This award, ...honors strong leadership and inspires continuous improvement. It reflects the expectations set forth in the Code of Canon Law that “the instruction which is given in Catholic Schools is at least as academically distinguished as that of other schools in the area” (Can. 806 §2).
Every elementary school was considered for this honor based on performance in reading and mathematics on the NWEA MAP assessment, as aligned with Ohio’s proficiency standards. Your results stand out among your peers and affirm your commitment to providing every child of God with an excellent education....
This recognition affirms that purposeful, faith-filled leadership leads to academic excellence. Thank you for your dedicated service to your students, faculty, and school community.
In his message to The Welsh Academy faculty and staff, Rev. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J. ’82, President and Chief Mission Officer of Saint Ignatius High School and The Welsh Academy, expressed his gratitude and pride for the Academy’s dedicated team. He wrote, “this recognition is due to the hard work and dedication that the faculty and staff show each and every day in [their] work with the students of The Welsh Academy.” Fr. Guiao also celebrated the team’s embodiment of the school’s guiding principles of encounter, care, deeper teaching, and deeper learning.
Congratulations to The Welsh Academy on this meaningful recognition of academic excellence.
